THE DISCOVERY PACKAGE This trip is a three-day, two-river feast that is ideal for those who
want to fully experience the diversity of Costa Rica's river rafting. Day 1
Your day will start when
we pick you up from your San José hotel in one of our comfortable
minibuses for a scenic ride to the beautiful Reventazón River. You'll stop
along the way for a traditional, Costa Rican-style breakfast, and then
continue on to the put-in at the Reventazón. Immediately engulfed in the
excitement of nature unharnessed, you'll paddle through moderately flowing
rapids that are interspersed with stretches of calm, gentle water where
you'll have plenty of time to view the magnificent tropical scenery that
surrounds you throughout the journey. After your approximately one and a
half hour river trip, with lunch on the riverbank, you'll be driven to the
Casa Turire Hotel, where you'll be staying for the night.
Patterned after a
classical colonial hacienda, the bright and airy Casa Turire is surrounded
by sugarcane plantations, coffee fields and macadamia trees--all making
for an unforgettable experience. Cool, decorative tile floors and graceful
archways frame the central courtyard, while comfortable yet elegant
sitting areas and a library/game parlor invite conversation and relaxing.
A spring-fed swimming pool and trails around the hotel grounds that
feature fruit orchards and tropical forests are at your disposal. Your
spacious, luxurious room at Casa Turire includes private bathroom with
tub, a balcony, telephone and satellite cable TV. Dinner in the hotel's
dining room is included, offering specialties of organic vegetables and
fresh fruits to round out traditional Costa Rican dishes. Day 2
After you breakfast at
Casa Turire, you'll be picked up at approximately 9:00 a.m. for your next
river rafting experience: the majestic Pacuare River, which offers some of
the finest white water in Latin America. This unforgettable trip will take
you deep inside one of Costa Rica's most impressive primordial rainforests
where you'll pass through a wilderness of dense vegetation that provides
shelter to jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloths and numerous other species of
animals and birds. Once in the water, you'll experience the exhilaration
of riding rapids that pass by steep gorges rising majestically above the
riverbanks.
When you arrive at your overnight
destination, the Pacuare Lodge, you will find a jungle oasis nestled in
the middle of an enchanting and captivating rainforest. Surrounded by
nature in its purest state, a two-story jungle lodge houses rustic but
comfortable dining facilities on the first floor, and plenty of relaxing
hammocks in an open-air, second-floor lounge. Lunch will be served upon
your arrival, after which you can enjoy a short, guided hike, relax in a
hammock, or explore the grounds on your own. Happy Hour will provide you
with a chance to share the day's experiences with fellow rafters, followed
by dinner, where conversation continues over fine cuisine, accompanied by
wine and warm candlelight. Your room is a private, rustic bungalow,
complete with bathroom, comfortable bed with linens, and a porch where you
can relax to the quiet forest sounds. Day 3
DIFFICULTY: Class III-IV.
